M Stand was founded in 2017 in Shanghai by Ge Dong, who positioned the brand from day one as 'China's Starbucks for the young generation' built on a 'one store, one design' rule — no two M Stand locations are identical. The chain made its name with coconut iced coffee, edible oatmeal-cookie cups, and a minimalist industrial-design aesthetic, raising roughly $92.7M across multiple rounds from Xiaohongshu, Gaorong Capital, GenBridge, CMC Capital and BA Capital.
The most aesthetically influential of China's new specialty chains — M Stand is what Shanghai-based Gen Z designers cite when arguing local Chinese coffee brands have surpassed import chains on visual identity.
