Double B Coffee & Tea

Since 2012 · Anna Tsfasman, Olga Melik-Karakozova

Overview

Double B was founded in Moscow in 2012 by Anna Tsfasman and Olga Melik-Karakozova, both veterans of the Russian chain Koffein — Melik-Karakozova was Russian Barista Champion multiple times and Tsfasman had managed Koffein before deciding the chain's quality direction was going the wrong way. The flagship opened on Milyutinskiy Pereulok with a Black Eagle espresso machine, an EK43 grinder, and a slow bar offering 12 single-origins sourced via Nordic Approach. The brand grew to roughly 80 cafés across Russia, Prague, Barcelona, Tbilisi and Dubai, with full-scale roasting facilities in Moscow and Prague.

Known for

  • Founded 2012 by Anna Tsfasman and Olga Melik-Karakozova (multiple-time Russian Barista Champion)
  • First Russian specialty coffee brand to open international locations (Prague, Barcelona, Tbilisi, Dubai)
  • Originally sourced through Nordic Approach with a Scandinavian light-roast profile
  • Two full-scale roasting facilities: Moscow and Prague
  • Signature Lavender Raf — sweet espresso-cream-lavender drink that became a Moscow specialty staple

Why it matters

Double B is the standard-bearer for Russian third-wave coffee — when it opened in 2012 the Moscow specialty scene barely existed, and most smaller Russian specialty operations openly model themselves on Double B's franchise format. The company is also the first Russian coffee brand to scale internationally, and the Lavender Raf signature drink became culturally iconic enough that it's now synonymous with Moscow specialty café culture.
