Café Triciclo

Since 2013 · Sebastián Álvarez

Overview

Café Triciclo started around 2013 as a literal coffee tricycle — founder Sebastián 'Seba' Álvarez rolled it through Santiago fairs, concerts, and cultural events before parking it inside the La Mandarina Gallery in Barrio Italia and adding a black La Marzocco Linea and pastry program. By 2017 the team had opened a separate roastery named 3 Ciclos (a tribute to the project's three phases) and Triciclo had become Santiago's most recognized owner-operated specialty cafe and a La Marzocco distributor for Chile.

Known for

  • Chile's flagship specialty cafe + roastery
  • Began as a mobile coffee tricycle ('triciclo')
  • Owner Sebastián Álvarez — basketball-themed cafe interior
  • 3 Ciclos roastery (separate, opened 2017)
  • Official La Marzocco distributor for Chile

Why it matters

Triciclo is Chile's de facto flagship specialty cafe — the country had essentially no third-wave scene before Álvarez's tricycle, and the ecosystem of Santiago specialty cafes that followed (Black Mamba, Café Cahve, Café Cultura, Café Altura, Justicia) all trace influence to his model.
