Cafés El Magnífico

Cafés El Magnífico is a third-generation family business in Barcelona's Born district founded as the Cafés El Magnífico
Toma was opened in 2011 in Malasaña by Argentine partners Patricia Alda and Santiago Rigoni, who had no hospitality or coffee background — they came from advertising and didn't want to fly to London for good coffee anymore. The shop became Madrid's first specialty café and trained most of the city's later third-wave operators (Hola Coffee's Nolo Botana and Pablo Caballero, HanSo's team). Toma started its own roastery and training centre at Raimundo Lulio 16 around 2017.
Toma is the single point of origin for Madrid specialty coffee. Almost every notable Madrid third-wave café either trained at Toma, was founded by Toma alumni, or sources from Toma. The contrast with Barcelona (where Nomad played the same role two years later) explains why Spain has two distinct specialty traditions rather than one.
